Equity benchmark indices opened higher on Wednesday, with Sensex up 46 points. On the sectoral front, FMCG index rose 1% followed by IT and media indices. Realty, metal and bank were trading in the negative zone.
Sensex was up 37 points at 37,450, while the Nifty was down 11 points at 11,276. The market breadth is narrow as 422 shares advanced, against a decline of 408 shares, while 46 shares are unchanged.
Shares of Sun Pharmaceuticals slipped 1.5% after the company clarified on its inspection at its Mohali plant.
The Indian rupee opened at a fresh record low of 72.75 against the US dollar.
