YES Bank shares continue to tumble, drop nearly 10%

Yes Bank stock has crashed more than 50 percent in last one month wiping out more than Rs 4,600 crore in market capitalisation. It fell as much as 9 percent on Friday to hit fresh 52-week low of Rs 184.45.

It was quoting at Rs 189.30, down Rs 13.90, or 6.84 percent, on the BSE at 10:50 hours IST.

It has been the biggest loser among Nifty50 stocks in last one month.

In the dock for under-reporting bad loans, Yes Bank has denied any “window dressing” of corporate loans to conceal its non-performing asset (NPA) status.

Yes Bank further said its gross NPA ratios are among the finest in the banking industry and the internal control over financial planning is audited with BSR and Co (KPMG), that has given an “un-qualified opinion” on it.

Asian shares hover below 3-week high as Fed rate hike looms

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was almost flat in early trade, in part as South Korea is closed for a holiday. It stayed below a three-week high hit on Friday.

Asian shares barely budged on Wednesday, lacking traction as US bond yields edged near a seven-year peak ahead of a widely expected rate hike by the Federal Reserve and as international oil prices rose to four-year highs.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose to as high as 3.113 percent, near its seven-year peak of 3.128 percent touched on May 18.

The euro traded at $1.1765, not far from three-month high of $1.18155 touched on Monday.

Oil prices slipped following data showing US crude stocks rose unexpectedly last week and renewed call from Trump on OPEC to boost crude output.

Still they were supported on the whole on concerns of tight supply on US sanctions on Iran's oil exports.

Benchmark Brent futures hit USD 82.55 per barrel, its highest since Nov. 10, 2014, on Tuesday and last stood at USD 81.41, down 0.55 percent on the day.

US crude futures shed 0.6 percent to USD 71.87 per barrel after hitting an 11-week high of USD 72.78 the previous day.

Wall Street falls as US-China tariffs kick in

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 181.45 points, or 0.68 percent, to 26,562.05, the S&P 500 lost 10.3 points, or 0.35 percent, to 2,919.37, and the Nasdaq Composite added 6.29 points, or 0.08 percent, to 7,993.25.

The S&P 500 and the Dow closed lower on Monday after a new round of US-China trade tariffs kicked in, dampening last week's hopes for talks between the two countries, and as investors awaited a widely expected interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve.

Seven of the S&P's 11 major sectors lost ground after US tariffs on some USD 200 billion worth of Chinese goods took effect, along with Beijing's retaliatory duties.

The S&P 500 posted 18 new 52-week highs and three new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 43 new highs and 53 new lows.

About 6.96 billion shares changed hands on US exchanges compared with a 6.65 billion average for the last 20 sessions.

An evening walk down Dalal Street | Investors lose nearly Rs 3L crore on manic Monday; Nifty gives up 11,000, Sensex down 530 pts

At the close of market hours, the Sensex closed down 536.58 points or 1.46% at 36305.02, while the Nifty was down 175.70 points or 1.58% at 10967.40

The selloff was largely seen among financials, particularly non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), which weighed big on the indices.

Investors seem to be concerned about liquidity issues, particularly in the housing finance companies (HFCs). The likes of HDFC and Indiabulls Housing Finance were trading lower.

The opening minutes witnessed a reverse trade as benchmarks rose in the first few minutes. But selling in banks in the first ten minutes of trade ensured both Sensex and Nifty gave up all of their gains and traded in the red.

However, a further selloff among NBFCs pushed indices lower into the red zone. Sentiment was also dented with midcaps as well as auto names taking a big hit as well.

At the close of market hours, the Sensex closed down 536.58 points or 1.46% at 36305.02, while the Nifty was down 175.70 points or 1.58% at 10967.40.

The market breadth is negative as 543 shares advanced, against a decline of 2,092 shares, while 161 shares were unchanged.

TCS and Coal India were the top gainers, while HDFC, M&M, Eicher Motors and Indiabulls Housing lost the most.

Nikkei hits near 8-mth high, Topix also jumps; insurers rally after US yields rise

Japan's Nikkei extended its gains to near eight-month highs on Wednesday as investors took heart from a strong performance in Wall Street despite lingering trade war concerns, with financial stocks rallying after U.S. yields jumped.

The Nikkei share average ended 1.1 percent higher at 23,672.52, the best closing level since late January.

WORLD GOLD COUNCIL WARNS INDIA AGAINST CURBS ON GOLD IMPORTS

News agency Reuters is reporting that India should not tamper with its gold import duty or impose other restrictions to support the rupee, the World Gold Council said on Wednesday, as the government considers ways to cut “non-necessary” imports to stem an outflow of dollars.

Somasundaram PR, managing director of the Indian operation of the industry body, said current demand for the metal is down 7 percent this year from a year earlier and that gold was “not at the centre of the current account deficit issue”.
